Dear Christian Sisters,
After Elizabeth warmly greets Mary and Mary responds with gratefulness to the Lord, we get one simple statement that covers the rest of Mary’s time with Elizabeth:
And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.
Luke 1:56 ESV
That’s it. Mary does not tell Luke all the details about her visit with Elizabeth.
But can you imagine? Elizabeth and Zechariah are the only people who believe Mary. Mary instantly has a close relationship with Elizabeth and Zechariah.
Zechariah can’t speak, so he listens, perhaps writing his thoughts to Elizabeth and Mary as they discuss these miracles.
Elizabeth and Mary talk and talk and talk as they go about their daily chores and preparations for John the Baptist’s birth. Elizabeth becomes Mary’s mentor.
Certainly they talk about what Mary should do next.
Mary’s parents don’t seem to be very supportive. But what about Joseph?
I would think that Joseph was in shock. His beloved God-fearing Mary is pregnant, and it’s not his baby.
Perhaps Elizabeth convinced Mary to go back to Nazareth and knock on Joseph’s door.
